A Dedicated Activist Group Fighting for Human Rights
The founding of our nonprofit organization was inspired by the legacy of Harriet Tubman, an American abolitionist and political activist. Tubman escaped a life of slavery and helped rescue around 70 enslaved people through the use of the Underground Railroad routes and with the help of antislavery activists.
Advocating for Equality and Other Social Justice Matters
At Harriet Tubman Freedom Fighters (HTFF), we believe that education and mobilization go hand-in-hand when working toward positive change. That is why we are driven to raise awareness and take action on important social issues to help make a difference in the community.
Some of Our Activism Work
One of the social issues we are fighting for is stopping the disenfranchisement and inequity against convicted Floridians. As a testament to our commitment to this advocacy, we worked with Florida Rights Restoration Coalition in 2017 to collect signatures to get the Felons Initiative (Amendment 4) on a ballot referendum. This effort aided the passage of Amendment 4, restoring the right to vote for ex-felons.
A Glimpse at Our Organization
Harriet Tubman Freedom Fighters was established to help ensure that the voices of all voters are heard. Our activist group’s starting project was an outreach program regarding voting access barriers and aimed it at people in underperforming precincts of underrepresented communities.
